RCC installs automatic disinfection tunnel to contain COVID-19 spread

RAJSHAHI, June 25, 2020 (BSS)- Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has installed an automatic disinfection tunnel at its city bhaban main entrance aimed at containing the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading.

Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton formally inaugurated the tunnel passing through it on Wednesday saying if anyone passes through the tunnel he or she will be disinfected automatically.

In addition to the city bhaban, similar types of tunnels will be installed in three other places within a shortest possible time. Apart from this, disinfection tunnels will be installed at entry points of all the important markets, shopping malls and other busy key point installations in phases amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier, the city corporation has distributed 20,000 face masks and 1,000 liter hand sanitizers to face the adverse situation. 300 health workers were imparted need-based training and they remain active to stem the virus outbreak everywhere in the city at present.

They are also disseminating ideas among the community people on how to use the protective gears like face masks effectively besides maintaining social and physical distancing.

The City Corporation has, so far, distributed 1,394.85 tonnes of rice, Taka 48.12 lakh in cash and 145 cartons of baby food among the families in need as part of the government humanitarian assistance to cope with the present troubled situation.

With its own initiative, the corporation has distributed various types of foodstuffs including 325.33 tonnes of rice, 58.68 tonnes of pulse, 58.45 tonnes of potato, 15.08 tonnes of flour, 17 tonnes of fine and aromatic rice, 11.2 tonnes of sugar, 11,250 packets of vermicelli, 39 tonnes of pumpkin and 4.52 tonnes of spinach to tackle the pandemic situation.

Each of another 5,023 families was given Taka 500 jointly by the City Corporation and Brac, Mayor Liton added.
