262 Bangladeshis return from Singapore, 246 leave for France

DHAKA, June 24, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 162 stranded Bangladeshi citizens returned home from Singapore while 246 French nationals and permanent residents, who were stuck here due to flight suspension, left for Paris by separate chartered flights, operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines today.

A chartered aircraft of Biman landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 7:10 PM this evening carrying 262 passengers from Singapore, airlines spokesperson Tahera Khondoker told BSS.

As per the government decision, all the returnee passengers would have to be sent to a 14-day institutional quarantine if they fail to show COVID-19 negative ertificates or pass the medical examination at the airport on their arrival here.

Khondoker, who is deputy general manager (PR) of the national flag carrier, also said a sperate chartered flight of Biman took off from HSIA airport at 11:05 this morning for Paris carrying 246 passengers.

Earlier in the morning, a special flight of Novoair, a private carrier, brought 54 Bangladesh-born French nationals and permanent residents from Sylhet to Dhaka for the Biman’s chartered flight to Paris.

On June 16, the government resumed flight operations on international routes on a limited scale after more than three months of suspension on operating regular passenger flights since the middle of March.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has so far given permission to only three airlines — Biman, Qatar Airways and Emirates Airlines – – to operate flights from Dhaka under a set of regulations.
