Atiqul launches bicycle rental service ‘Jobike’
DHAKA, June 24, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam today launched ‘Jobike’, a bicycle rental service, in capital’s Gulshan area.
“When Covid-19 grips the whole country and experts suggest strict maintenance of social distance, the bike service will benefit people amid the crisis of mass transport,” Atiqul said while launching the service.
The bicycles have a GPS-enabled chip that restricts movement outside of the designated operating areas and the fare is set Tk 1 for a minute, he said.
Bicycles are not only good for health of riders, but also for the environment, Atiqulsaid, adding, “Such a service will help build a smart, safe, clean and healthy city.”
The service will be available in the city’s Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan area aiming to provide a safe, affordable and environment-friendly ride, said a press release.
Over 100 Jobikes will be available on 22 parking spots and anyone can make a safe trip with a bicycle from particular spots using an app.
