78pc recovery rate at Rangpur corona hospital

RANGPUR, June 23, 2020 (BSS) – The Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital (DCIH) in Rangpur has attained 78 percent recovery rate of under treatment coronavirus (COVID-19) patients to gain a solid public confidence in providing health services.

Health officials said a total of 181 COVID-19 patients were admitted to the facility, an extension of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH), since the beginning of its journey from April 19 last.

Among the total 181 admitted COVID-19 patients, three critically sick patients with multiple diseases were referred to Dhaka and six died and 139 out of total 178 under treatment patients were released after their full recovery till today.

“We discharged 10 more recovered COVID-19 patients today from the DCIH raising the total number of discharged patients to 139 with the recovery rate of 78 percent,” Superintendent of the DCIH Dr. SM Nurun Nabi told BSS this afternoon.

The 10 discharged patients are: Dulu Miah, Asaduzzaman Asad, Ramjan Ali, Ahsan Ali, Ferdous Hossain, Pervin Shumi, Zahidul Islam, Hasanur Rahman, Nazma Begum and Abdus Salek.

“We are discharging recovered COVID-19 patients after disappearing of all kinds of related symptoms and being tested for coronavirus negative in two consecutive real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests,” Dr. Nabi said.

Currently, 33 patients are currently undergoing treatments at the DCIH, including five in its intensive care unit (ICU),” Dr. Nabi said, adding that 74 recovered COVID-19 patients were discharged in between June 1 and June 23 from the facility.

Earlier, 64 recovered COVID-19 patients were discharged from the DCIH between May 1 and May 31 and an octogenarian was released as the first recovered patient from the facility on April 29 last.

The six COVID-19 patients who died at the DCIH so far with multiple complexities are: Aminur Rahman, 65, Mofiz Uddin, 67, Shamsul Huda, 69, Botitunnesa, 85, Sadia Pervin, 57, and Tofizar Rahman 65.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional (Director) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the 100-bed DCIH has a total 90 general beds (60 for males and 30 for females) and a modernised ICU with 10 beds and 10 ventilators.

“The physicians, nurses and other staff are providing treatments and health services to the admitted COVID-19 patients at the facility round the clock with utmost sincerity and dedication and their performance is highly laudable,” he added.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said the authorities concerned have put emphasis on enhancing facilities at the DCIH to ensure quality health services to the admitted COVID-19 patients of Rangpur division.
