COVID-19 cases reach 2,342 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 23, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients reached 2,342 as 41 new positive cases were reported during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the district-wise break up of the patients now stands at 793 in Rangpur, 128 in Panchagarh, 305 in Nilphamari, 78 in Lalmonirhat, 121 in Kurigram, 185 in Thakurgaon, 516 in Dinajpur and 216 Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 1,136 now with the recovery of 31 more patients on Tuesday in the division.

“The recovery rate among the total 2,051 coronavirus infected patients now stands at 48.50 percent in the division,” he said.

The 1,136 recovered COVID-19 patients include 411 of Rangpur, 69 of Panchagarh, 158 of Nilphamari, 48 of Lalmonirhat, 71 of Kurigram, 94 of Thakurgaon, 243 of Dinajpur and 42 of Gaibandha districts.

“A total of 24,288 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested so far, and of them, the 2,342 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 9.64 in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

As no more death was reported on Monday, the total number of fatalities remains at 39 including 13 in Rangpur, six each in Nilphamari, Dinajpur and Gaibandha, two each in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon and one in Lalmonirhat districts.

Among the total 2,342 COVID-19 patients, 152 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 1,136 recovered patients and 39 deaths while 1,015 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 46,376 people were put in quarantines since the beginning, and of them, 40,343 released and 6,033 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

“During the last 24 hours, 318 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 305 others released from all eight districts in the division,” he said.

After getting a total of 1,63,818 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 97,783 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 66,035 pieces in the division.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said Dr. Khan said comprehensive efforts have been put by all authorities concerned to check COVID-19 spread in the division.

“As a limited scale community transmission of deadly virus continues at places in the division, every citizen should maintain physical distance, wear masks and abide by the health directives to contain further spread of COVID-19 and remain safe,” he added.
