Fact-checking site will to be set up to control fake news: Palak
DHAKA, June 22, 2020 (BSS) – As fabricated news is harming the people as well as the society immensely, the government has decided to take an initiative to deal with false and fake news through launching a fact-checking site.
This was stated by the State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Junaid Ahmed Palak while attending an online seminar on ‘Control of Fake News’ on the official Facebook page of the ICT Department on Sunday, said a press release issued here today.
“Information and Communication Technology Department has taken various initiatives to deal with fake news. The government will take steps to create a digital security helpline for technical and legal assistance and a ‘fact-checking site’ to control fake news,” he said.
The state minister also said the government will also implement digital security agencies under the Digital Security Act to increase the digital literacy of the society.
During the seminar, it was stated that the whole world is suffering from another epidemic like the Corona epidemic at the moment and that is fake news.
Although fake news exists at all levels of news development, it has taken a deadly turn in the digital age. As a result, people are suffering socially, politically and psychologically, added the release.
In this context, the seminar was held to determine the plan on how technology can be used for the welfare of the people by controlling fake news.
The key-note-paper was presented at the workshop by Dr. Md. Ruhul Amin, Assistant Professor of Data Science of Fordham University, USA.
NM Ziaul Alam, Senior Secretary of ICT department, eminent literary personality and professor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Additional DIG Director of National Emergency Services-999 Tabarak Ullah and Chief Editor of Ekattar Television Mozammel Haque Babu were also present at the seminar.
