55 transgender people get food support in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, June 22, 2020 (BSS) – Some 55 transgender people were given food support aimed at mitigating their livelihood related crisis being caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Each of them was given a food package containing 12 kilograms of rice, four kilograms of potato and two kilograms of pulse, edible oil, salt and onion each for one month’s meal.

Light House Consortium in association with German Doctors and ICDDR, B disbursed the food support at Shishu Academy playground in Rajshahi city Sunday through maintaining social distancing and other health safety guidelines amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Light House Project Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul told BSS that another 2,250 transgender people will be brought under the food assistance programme in phases so that they can cope with the present pandemic situation.
