COVID-19 cases cross 2,300 mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 22, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 2,300 mark as 53 new patients were diagnosed positive with the lethal virus during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 2,301 in all eight districts of Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

“The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 783 in Rangpur, 126 in Panchagarh, 298 in Nilphamari, 76 in Lalmonirhat, 120 in Kurigram, 180 in Thakurgaon, 507 in Dinajpur and 211 in Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the total number of recovered of COVID-19 patients rose to 1,105 with discharging of 46 more people after their recovery from the Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals of Rangpur division on Sunday.

“The percentage of recovery among all 1,309 coronavirus infected patients stands at 48.02 now in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 1,105 recovered COVID-19 patients include 401 of Rangpur, 66 of Panchagarh, 152 of Nilphamari, 48 of Lalmonirhat, 71 of Kurigram, 94 of Thakurgaon, 232 of Dinajpur and 41 of Gaibandha districts.

Meanwhile, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan a total of 23,930 collected samples of Rangpur division were so far tested, and of them, the 2,301 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 9.61 in the division.

The total number of fatalities stands at 39 in the division with 13 in Rangpur, eight in Dinajpur, six each in Nilphamari and Gaibandha, three in Panchagarh, two in Thakurgaon and one in Lalmonirhat districts.

Among the total 2,301 coronavirus infected patients, 150 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 1,105 recovered patients and 39 deaths while are 1,007 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

“We have a capacity of 2,552 beds at 25 quarantine and isolation centres and 13 beds with 13 ventilators at two intensive care units of two government hospitals to provide treatments to the COVID-19 patients and face the situation in the division,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 46,058 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 40,037 released and 6,021 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

During the last 24 hours, 319 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 320 others released from all eight districts in the division. After getting a total of 1,62,818 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 97,257 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 65,561 pieces in the division.

“Currently, the government hospitals, health complexes and other health services providing facilities have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to face the COVID-19 situation in Rangpur division,” Dr. Khan added.
