Bidyanondo Foundation sprays insecticides to kill Aedes mosquitoes

DHAKA, June 21, 2020 (BSS) – Voluntary organization, Bidyanondo Foundation, has started spraying insecticides in the capital city and also outside it to confront any possible dengue outbreak amid coronavirus pandemic.

A manager of the Bidyanondo Foundation Salman Khan Yeasin today said they started their operations last week, and are gradually expanding the activities to cover all the densely populated areas including slums that are prone to an outbreak, said a press release.

They started the anti-dengue campaign by spraying insecticides in Dhaka Medical College Hospital area, Railway colony in Shahjahanpur and Jinjira in Keraniganj last week, he said.

Insecticides have also been sprayed at Jatrabari, Kamlapur, Khilgaon and Mugda General Hospital areas, said Salman.

He added the volunteers sprayed insecticides in Mohammadpur area today.

Experienced from last year’s outbreak of dengue when more than 100,000 people were hospitalized across the country and about 164 people died, the Bidyanondo Foundation expanded their campaign in other parts of the city, Salman said.

He said they are using their own fogger machines to spray the insecticides to kill the adult mosquitoes but would start targeting the breeding grounds too.

“Our primary targets are all hospital areas and the slums. These places are very vulnerable,” Salman said, adding “But we are ready to work in other areas too and in coordination with city corporations we can successfully conduct the campaign this year.”

He said they prepared a roadmap for deriving maximum output from their efforts and engaged their volunteers to identify the breeding grounds and vulnerable areas.

Salman said they were working to build awareness among the city residents and the slum dwellers as it is impossible to fight the menace without their engagement.
