Jabbar mourns Kamal Lohani’s death

DHAKA, June 20, 2020 (BSS) – Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Ekushey Padak winning renowned Journalist Kamal Lohani.

In a condolence message, he said valiant freedom fighter Kamal Lohani played outstanding role in language movement to journalism, art and culture as well as every progressive movement.

His contribution and role in country’s Language Movement and War of Liberation will be remained everlasting.

Jabbar said the nation will always remember his contributions with deep respect.

Recalling his memories with Kamal Lohani, he said: “I never forget his contribution in my journalism career as he was an ideal and real teacher and guide… I lost a genuine guardian.”

The irreparable loss incurred the country at the demise of Kamal Lohani will never be replenished, said Jabbar.

The posts and telecommunications minister also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Journalist, language movement hero and cultural personality Abu Nayeem Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Khan Lohani, commonly known as Kamal Lohani passed away at a city hospital this morning at the age of 86.

Kamal Lohani is survived by a son, two daughters and a host of relatives.

He was born at Khan Sotala village under Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district on June 26 in 1934.

His father’s name was Abu Yousuf Mohammad Musa Khan and mother’s name was Rokeya Khan Lohani.

Kamal Lohani started his carrier as journalist through the daily Millat. Then he worked for Daily Azad, Sangbad, Purbo Desh and Dainik Barta. He was a president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ).

Lohani was also president of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi, the largest anti-communal, progressive and voluntary organization of Bangladesh, and general secretary of Chhayanaut Sangeet Vidyatan.

He was too Director General (DG) of the Shilpakala Academy for two times.

He was awarded the prestigious ‘Ekushey Padak’ for his contribution to Journalism in 2015.
