President mourns death of Kamal Lohani

DHAKA, June 20, 2020 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Ekushey award winning journalist, imminent cultural personality and veteran freedom fighter Kamal Lohani.

In a condolence message, the President said, “Apart from journalism, Kamal Lohani had immense contribution to our great Language Movement, freedom struggle and the Liberation War.”

Recalling with due respect his involvement in the development of country’s cultural activities, President Hamid said he was a pioneer of promoting Bengali culture as well as the spirit of Liberation War and cultural movement.

“At his (Lohani) death, the country has lost an imminent journalist and a great cultural personality . . . His death is an irreparable loss to the cultural arena too,” he added.

The head of the state prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.

Kamal Lohani died at Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Institute and Hospital here this morning. He had been undergoing treatment there with multiple health complications, including diabetes, lung, heart and kidney problems since May 16.

He was later diagnosed with COVID 19 (Coronavirus) infection.
