COVID-19 cases exceed 2,200 mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 20, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases exceeded the 2,200 mark as 57 more new patients were reported positive at COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur of Rangpur division on Monday.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 2,215 in all eight districts of Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 755 in Rangpur, 123 in Panchagarh, 287 in Nilphamari, 71 in Lalmonirhat, 119 in Kurigram, 173 in Thakurgaon, 483 in Dinajpur and 204 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the common people should become more aware of the severity of COVID-19 virus as its limited scale community transmission continues at fewer places in Rangpur division.

“With the healing of 12 more COPVID-19 infected people on Friday, the total number of recovered patients rose to 1,009 now with the recovery rate of 47.70 percent in the division,” Dr. Khan said.

The 1,009 recovered COVID-19 patients include 375 of Rangpur, 66 of Panchagarh, 136 of Nilphamari, 40 of Lalmonirhat, 71 of Kurigram, 89 of Thakurgaon, 207 of Dinajpur and 25 of Gaibandha districts.

“During the last 24 hours, 215 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 242 others released from all eight districts in the division,” Dr. Khan said.

Since the beginning, a total of 21,496 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Monday, and of them, the 2,006 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 9.33 in the division.

At the same time, a total of 45,290 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 39,489 released and 5,801 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

With one more death reported from in Lalmonirhat on Friday, the total number of fatalities rose to 38 with the death rate of 1.71 percent in the division.

“Of them 13 COVID-19 patients died in Rangpur, seven in Dinajpur, six in Nilphamari and Gaibandha, two each in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon and two expired in Lalmonirhat districts in the division, so far,” Dr. Khan added.

Among the total 2,215 COVID-19 patients, 170 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 1,009 recovered patients and 38 deaths while 998 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

After getting a total of 1,60,818 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 94,448 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 66,370 pieces in the division.

Talking to BSS, Additional Division Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said all authorities concerned are working in a coordinated way to prevent COVID-19 infection, provide health services to the infected patients and food to the jobless people.

“Maximum efforts have been put on inspiring the people in maintaining physical distance, wearing masks and abiding by the health directives to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in the division,” he added.
