Covid-19 cases reach 1,777 with highest 169 more in Khulna division

KHULNA, June 18, 2020 (BSS) – The number of the caseload for COVID-19 has surged to 1,777 in the division with record 169 more new positive cases detected in a single day after testing samples at three COVID -19 laboratories here in the last 24 hours till noon today.

Health officials said the newly detected 169 COVID-19 patients include 97 in Khulna, 13 in Bagerhat, 14 in Jashore, 20 in Kustia, 17 in Chuadanga, five in Narail, two in Meherpur and one in Magura districts in the division.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 1,777 in all the 10 districts of Khulna division,” said Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter.

“We received 284 samples at Khulna Medical College (KMC) and other samples at Jashore and Kushtia laboratories in the last 24 hours till this noon and 169 of those were found COVID-19 positive,” she added.

The district-wise breakups of the COVID-19 patients are 589 in Khulna, 100 in Bagerhat, 86 in Satkhira, 283 in Jashore, 119 in Jhenaidah, 56 in Magura, 71 in Narail, 273 in Kushtia, 164 in Chuadanga and 36 in Meherpur.

Meanwhile, the total number of recovered of COVID-19 patients rose to 507 with discharging of 36 more people after their recovery from the Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals in all 10 districts of the division in the last 24 hours.

Khulna Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the average recovery rate of COVID-19 patients currently stands at 28.53 percent while fatality rate 1.35 percent in the division.

She laid emphasis on maintaining three heath directives – wearing mask, physical distancing and washing hands by soap – to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“Among the total 1,777 coronavirus infected persons, 239 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals after the release of 507 recovered patients and 24 deaths has been reported while the rest of the patients are remaining in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, she added.

Besides, a total of 24 fatalities, including two in the last 24 hour till this noon, were reported so far in the division with nine in Khulna, three in Meherpur, two each in Bagerhat, Magura, Narail, Kushtia and Jhenaidah and one each in Jashore and Chuadanga districts, the health official mentioned.
