111 COVID-19 patients recover at Rangpur hospital

RANGPUR, June 17, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 111 coronavirus (COVID-19) infected people have recovered out of total 162 undergoing treatment patients at the Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital (DCIH) in Rangpur city.

“With the release of two more patients from the DCIH today, the total number of discharged patients rose to 11 with the recovery rate of 68.51 percent,” Superintendent of the DCIH Dr. SM Nurun Nabi told BSS this afternoon.

Declaring them “recovered”, the two recovered COVID-19 patients were discharged through bidding them a farewell in a brief function held on the hospital compound with flowers and discharge certificates before they returned home with smiling faces.

The DCIH, an extension of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH), are discharging recovered COVID-19 patients after tested for coronavirus negative in two consecutive real-time PCR tests.

The two discharged patients are: Golam Mostafa, 49, a staff of RMCH and Mizanur Rahman, 51, a resident of Rangpur city. They were admitted to the DCIH between June 2 and June 8 last.

Since the beginning from April 19 last, a total of 165 COVID-19 patients were admitted to the DCIH, and of them, 111 recovered, six died and three critically sick patients with multiple diseases were referred to Dhaka.

“Currently, 45 patients are currently undergoing treatments at the DCIH,” he said, adding that 46 recovered COVID-19 patients were discharged from the facility in between June 1 and June 17.

The six COVID-19 patients who died at the DCIH with multiple complexities are: Aminur Rahman, 65, Mofiz Uddin, 67, Shamsul Huda, 69, Botitunnesa, 85, Sadia Pervin, 57, and Tofizar Rahman 65.

“Earlier, 64 recovered COVID-19 patients were discharged from the DCIH between May 1 and May 31 and an octogenarian was released as the first recovered patients from the facility on April 29 last,’ Dr. Nabi added.

Talking to BSS, Divisional (Director) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said maximum emphasis has been given to ensure proper treatments to all admitted COVID-19 patients at the DCIH having a total 90 general beds and an ICU with 10 beds and 10 ventilators.

“The physicians, nurses and other staff are providing treatments and health services to the admitted COVID-19 patients at the facility round the clock with utmost dedication and sincerity,” Dr. Khan said.
