COVID-19 cases reach 2,051 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 17, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients rapidly climbed to 2,051 with 45 new positive cases reported during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the district-wise break up of the patients stands at 708 in Rangpur, 115 in Panchagarh, 263 in Nilphamari, 67 in Lalmonirhat, 111 in Kurigram, 167 in Thakurgaon, 441 in Dinajpur and 179 Gaibandha districts of the division.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 908 now with the recovery of nine more patients on Tuesday in the division.

“The percentage of recovery among the total 2,051 coronavirus infected patients now stands at 44.27 in the division,” he said.

The 908 recovered COVID-19 patients include 343 of Rangpur, 66 of Panchagarh, 125 of Nilphamari, 38 of Lalmonirhat, 59 of Kurigram, 80 of Thakurgaon, 172 of Dinajpur and 25 of Gaibandha districts.

“A total of 21,862 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested so far, and of them, the 2,051 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 9.38 in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

With one more death reported from Gaibandha on Tuesday, the total number of fatalities rose to 36 in the division including 13 in Rangpur, six each in Nilphamari, Dinajpur and Gaibandha, two each in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon and one in Lalmonirhat districts.

Among the total 2,051 COVID-19 patients, 172 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 908 recovered patients and 36 deaths while 935 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 44,669 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 39,033 released and 5,636 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

“During the last 24 hours, 243 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 305 others released from all eight districts in the division,” he said.

After getting a total of 1,59,818 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 92,508 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 67,310 pieces in the division.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said everyone should maintain physical distance, wear masks and abide by the health directives to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 and remain safe.
