COVID-19 cases exceed 2,000 mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 16, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases exceeded the 2,000 mark as 58 more new patients were reported positive at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur of Rangpur division on Monday.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 2,006 in all eight districts of Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 696 in Rangpur, 114 in Panchagarh, 259 in Nilphamari, 67 in Lalmonirhat, 106 in Kurigram, 167 in Thakurgaon, 427 in Dinajpur and 170 Gaibandha districts of the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 899 now with the recovery of 27 patients on Monday in the division.

“The percentage of recovery among the total 1,948 coronavirus infected patients now stands at 44.81 in the division,” he said.

The 872 recovered COVID-19 patients include 343 of Rangpur, 64 of Panchagarh, 122 of Nilphamari, 37 of Lalmonirhat, 59 of Kurigram, 80 of Thakurgaon, 169 of Dinajpur and 25 of Gaibandha districts.

Since the beginning, a total of 21,496 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Monday, and of them, the 2,006 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 9.33 in the division.

“The total number of fatalities rose to 35 in the division including 13 in Rangpur, six each in Nilphamari and Dinajpur, two each in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon and five in Gaibandha districts with no fatality in Kurigram district,” Dr. Khan said.

Among the total 2,006 COVID-19 patients, 165 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 899 recovered patients and 35 deaths while 907 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 44,222 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 38,532 released and 5,690 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

“During the last 24 hours, 282 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 480 others released from all eight districts in the division,” Dr. Khan said.

After getting a total of 1,59,818 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 92,250 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 67,568 pieces in the division.

Dr. Khan stressed on maintaining physical distance, wearing masks and abiding by the health directives of the government to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 amid deteriorating infection situation at places in the division.

Additional Division Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said the district administrations with all concerned are working to prevent COVID-19 infection, provide health services to the infected patients and food to the jobless people.
