Rangpur corona hospital attains 74pc recovery rate

RANGPUR, June 15, 2020 (BSS) – The Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital (DCIH) in Rangpur has attained 74.10 percent recovery rate of the patients undergoing treatment at the facility since the beginning of its journey from April 19 last.

“With the recovery of five more patients today, the total number of discharged patients rose to 109 at the DCIH among the total of 153 under treatment people with the recovery rate of 74.10 percent,” Superintendent of the DCIH Dr. SM Nurun Nabi told BSS.

Since the beginning, a total of 156 COVID-19 patients were admitted to the DCIH, an extension of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH), and of them, three cortically sick patients with multiple diseases were referred to Dhaka.

“Among the total of 153 undergoing COVID-19 patients, 109 have already recovered, six died and 38 are currently undergoing treatments at the facility,” Dr. Nabi told BSS.

The six patients who were discharged today are: Dr. Mostakim Setu, 31, Kawnia Upazila Rural Development Officer in Rangpur Anisur Rahman, 40, Professor Milon, policeman Aslam Hossain, and businessman Tariqul Islam, 41.

Each of the recovered COVID-19 patients is being discharged from the DCIH only after disappearance of all kinds of symptoms and negative results of two consecutive real-time PCR tests.

“The six COVID-19 patients who died at the DCIH with complexities like heart, kidney and diabetic diseases are: Aminur Rahman, 65, Mofiz Uddin, 67, Shamsul Huda, 69, Botitunnesa, 85, Sadia Pervin, 57, and Tofizar Rahman 65,” Dr. Nabi said.

In between June 1 and June 15, a total of 44 recovered COVID-19 patients were discharged from the DCIH in Rangpur.

Earlier, 64 healed COVID-19 patients were discharged from the DCIH between May 1 and May 31 and an octogenarian was released as the first recovered patients from the facility on April 29 last.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional (Director) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the DCIH has a total 90 general beds (60 for males and 30 for females) and an intensive care unit (ICU) with 10 beds and 10 ventilators.

“The physicians, nurses and other staff are providing treatments and health services to the admitted COVID-19 patients at the facility with utmost sincerity and dedication and their performance is highly laudable,” Dr. Khan said.

Expressing satisfaction over the performance of the DCIH, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said efforts are on to enhance facilities, equipment and manpower at all dedicated corona isolation hospitals in Rangpur division.

“We are trying our best in association with other departments and organisations concerned, Bangladesh Army and law enforcement agencies to face the COVID-19 situation and prevent its community transmission in the division,” he added.
