Arrested BRUR teacher lands in Rangpur jail

RANGPUR, June 14, 2020 (BSS) – An arrested teacher of Begum Rokeya
University, Rangpur (BRUR) landed in jail today for posting derogatory
status on her facebook defaming veteran politician, Awami League (AL)
presidium member and 14-party alliance spokesperson Mohammad Nasim.

Earlier, members of Tazhat police station of Rangpur Metropolitan
Police (RpMP) arrested Lecturer of the Department of Bengali of BRUR
Sirajam Munira from her residence in Parker Mour Sardarpara area of
the city at midnight last night.

“She was arrested in connection with a case filed against her under
the Digital Security Act by BRUR Registrar Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal with
the police station,” said Sub-inspector (SI) Muhibbul Islam of Tazhat
police station of RpMP.

SI Muhibul, also In-charge of the Police Camp at BRUR campus and
Investigation Officer of the case, said the arrested teacher posted a
derogatory status defaming veteran politician Mohammad Nasim after his
death on her Facebook on Saturday.

“We produced the arrested teacher with a five-day remand prayer
this afternoon before a Rangpur court from where she was sent to
Rangpur Central Jail,” SI Muhibbul said.

The hearing on the submitted remand prayer will be held at the
online court of the Senior Chief Judicial Magistrate of Rangpur
tomorrow .

“Besides, another case, filed by President of BRUR unit of
Bangladesh Chhatra League Abu Monnaf Al Kibria Tushar against the
teacher, has been kept as a supplement to the case filed by the BRUR
Registrar,” the SI added.
