Cabinet members mourn death of Mohammed Nasim

DHAKA, June 13, 2020 (BSS) – A number of cabinet members today
expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Awami League (AL)
presidium member, 14-party alliance spokesperson and former health
minister Mohammed Nasim.

In separate condolence messages, they prayed for eternal peace of
the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

The cabinet members, who condoled Nasim’s death, are Liberation War

Besides, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam,
National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Harun-Or-Rashid and
central committee of ‘Amra Muktijoddhar Sontan’ condoled the death of
the veteran politician and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved
family.

Former health minister Mohammed Nasim breathed his last while
undergoing treatment at the Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in city’s
Shyamoli area in the morning today. He was 72.

He left behind his wife, three sons and a host of relatives and
admirers to mourn his death.

He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since June 1.

The veteran AL leader was tested positive for coronavirus. But he
was found coronavirus negative in the second and third test.

He also suffered a stroke and had undergone a successful surgery.

Nasim was born on April 2, 1948 to Muhammad Mansur Ali and Amena
Mansur at Kazipur Upazila in Sirajganj district.

Muhammad Mansur Ali, a close associate of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, served as the 3rd prime minister of
Bangladesh in 1975 and was one of the four national leaders killed in
the Dhaka Central Jail on November 3, 1975.

Nasim was elected Member of Parliament for five times in 1986, 1996,
2001, 2014 and 2018. The veteran AL leader was sworn in as Minister
for Health and Family Welfare on January 12, 2014.

He had successfully served as the Minister for Home Affairs, Housing
and Public Works and Posts and Telecommunications from 1996 to 2001.

Nasim completed graduation degree in political science from the
then Jagannath College, now Jagannath University (JnU).

He was involved in various social welfare activities alongside
politics and set up several educational institutions in his area
including Dhaka and Sirajganj.
