DHAKA, June 13, 2020 (BSS) – Tributes and condolences continue to pour in for Awami League (AL) presidium member, 14-party alliance spokesperson and former health minister Mohammed Nasim, who breathed his last this morning at a city hospital at the age of 72.
Immediately after his demise, people from all walks of life as well as different political parties and leaders expressed their profound shock.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Nasim, also son of Captain M Mansur Ali, one of the four national leaders.
In his condolence message, the President said the death of Nasim is really an irreparable loss for the national politics of Bangladesh.
Recalling his (Nasim’s) outstanding contribution to the country’s politics with due respect, Hamid said Mohammed Nasim was a fearless fighter in all the democratic movements of the country, including the freedom struggle and the Liberation War.
The President prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
In her condolence message, the Prime Minister recalled his (Nasim’s) contribution to people’s welfare, saying, “Mohammed Nasim, like his father, worked for the welfare of the country and the nation being inspired with the ideology of the Father of the Nation”.
He played a significant role in establishing the spirit of the Liberation War and the communal harmony in the country by facing all sorts of hurdles, Sheikh Hasina, also Awami League President, said.
“At Mohammed Nasim’s death, Bangladesh has lost a true patriot and pro-people leader as well as I myself lost a co-warrior,” the premier said, adding he will be remembered for his services and efforts for the welfare of the country and the nation.
She prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Besides, in separate condolence messages, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Deputy Speaker Advocate Md Fazle Rabbi Miah, Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury condoled the death of veteran politician Mohammed Nasim.

They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Former health minister Mohammed Nasim passed away at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in city’s Shyamoli area this morning. He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since June 1.
The veteran AL leader tested positive for coronavirus. But he was found coronavirus negative in second and third tests.
He also suffered a stroke and had undergone a successful surgery at the hospital.
