DHAKA, June 11, 2020 (BSS) – GDP growth rate has been projected 8.2 percent while inflation 5.4 percent in the proposed national budget for fiscal year 2020-21.

“In view of post-COVID recovery, the growth rate is projected at 8.2 percent for FY21 in line with the long-term plans,” said finance minister A H M Mustafa Kamal today while placing national budget at the JatiyaSangsad.

He also expected that inflation will be 5.4 percent during the period.

Kamal said GDP grew consistently at an increasing rate in the last decade and achieved a GDP growth of 8.15 percent in the FY 2018-19, highest among the countries in Asia.

He said strong domestic demand has been the main driver of our growth.

“Due to fall in exports and lower than expected growth in remittances as a result of long and sustained worldwide lockdowns arising from the impact of COVID-19, the GDP growth rate of the current fiscal year has been revised downward at 5.2 percent,” added the finance minister.
