COVID-19 cases reach 1,001 with highest 85 more in Khulna division

KHULNA, June 11, 2020 (BSS) – The entire number of the caseload for COVID-19 has surged to 1,001 in the division with record 85 more new positive cases reported after testing samples at the three COVID -19 laboratories of Khulna division in last 24 hours till 12 noon today.

Among the newly detected 85 COVID-19 patients, 31 in Khulna, 25 in Kustia, 17 in Jashore, three each in Narail and Chuadanga, two in Magura and one each in Bagerhat, Satkhira and Jhenaidah districts of the division, according to the health officials.

Talking to BSS, Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter said a total of 362 COVID-19 patients have so far fully recovered out of total 1,001 infected persons in the division.

“We received 283 samples at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) and other samples in Jashore and Kushtia laboratories in the last 24 hours till this noon and 85 of those were found COVID-19 positive,” Dr. Ferdousi said.

The district-wise numbers of recovered COVID-19 patients are stand at 248 in Khulna, 46 in Bagerhat, 56 in Satkhira, 171 in Jashore, 65 in Jhenaidah, 43 in Magura, 50 in Narail, 163 in Kushtia, 130 in Chuadanga and 29 in Meherpur .

Khulna Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the average recovery rate of COVID-19 patients currently stands at 36.16 percent while the fatality rate 1.40 percent in the division.

“Among the total 1,001 coronavirus infected persons, 170 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals after releasing 362 recovered patients and 14 deaths while the rest of the patients are remaining in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, she said.

She laid emphasis on maintaining three heath directives–wearing mask, physical distancing and washing hands by soap– to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Referring to latest health directives of the World Health Organization (WHO), she said the people must wear masks to protect themselves from infections of coronavirus and mentioned that scientifically cloth-made mask is equally effective to prevent the virus.

At the same time, a total of 14 fatalities were reported so far with four in Khulna, two in Bagerhat, two each in Magura, Narail and Meherpur and one each in Jashore and Chuadanga districts.
