Liton for generating more earning sources

RAJSHAHI, June 10, 2020 (BSS) – Mayor of Rajshahi City AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has called for generating more earning sources for strengthening the civic services of the city corporation.

He said there is no alternative to finding out furthermore income sources to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the city dwellers through enhancing the civic amenities.

Liton came up with the observation while presiding over the meeting of Rajshahi City Corporation’s (RCC) revised budget of 2019-2020 and proposed budget formulation of 2020-2021 financial years held at the city bhaban conference hall here today.

He said the RCC’s service delivery divisions will be enhanced to nine from the existing six aimed at infusing dynamism into the daily civic services.

Panel Mayor Tahera Begum Mily, Ward Councilors Nijam Ul Azim and Nazrul Islam, Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharif Uddin, Secretary Abu Hayat Rahmatullah, Chief Revenue Officer Shahana Akter Jahan, Chief Health Officer Dr AFM Anjuman Ara Begum and Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Muhammad Mamun were present at the meeting.

The Mayor said utmost emphasis should be given on strengthening the economic condition of the city corporation. Time has come to create new income sources instead of depending on only the holding taxes and other existing earnings.

He said an university named “City University” will be launched in the city. “We can boost our revenue earning through establishing new residential areas and CNG stations,” he added.

The city corporation intendeds to make all its civic services digitised and automated in phases for the benefit of the city dwellers.

“We are pledged to make the services transparent and accountable through freeing those from all sorts of corruption and manipulation,” said Liton.

He told the meeting that the present government has approved a mega project involving around Taka 3,000 crore for infrastructural development in Rajshahi city and its implementation works will start by next July.

Many other projects are also being implemented for development of the city. The city corporation has also been implementing six projects involving around Taka 795.59 crore at present.
