COVID-19 cases cross 1,500 mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 10, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 1,500 mark as 87 more new patients were diagnosed with the fatal virus at the three COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur and Dhaka on Tuesday.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 1,519 in all eight districts of Rangpur division at 8 am today,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

More 87 people were tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday at the COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur and National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Centre (NILMRC) at Dhaka.

“The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 515 in Rangpur, 92 in Panchagarh, 200 in Nilphamari, 55 in Lalmonirhat, 82 in Kurigram, 150 in Thakurgaon, 338 in Dinajpur and 87 Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the total number of recovered of COVID-19 patients rose to 634 now with the discharge of 24 more people after their recovery in all eight districts of Rangpur division on Tuesday.

“The percentage of recovery among all 1,519 coronavirus infected patients stands at around 41.74 now in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 634 recovered COVID-19 patients include 281 of Rangpur, 20 of Panchagarh, 69 of Nilphamari, 27 of Lalmonirhat, 57 each of Kurigram and Thakurgaon, 101 of Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 18,492 collected samples of Rangpur division were so far tested, and of them, 1,519 found COVID-19 positive with 8.21 percent among the tested samples.

The total number of fatalities stands at 26 in the division including nine of Rangpur, five of Dinajpur, four each of Nilphamari and Gaibandha, two each of Panchagarh and Thakurgaon districts.

Among the total 1,519 coronavirus infected patients, 156 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 634 recovered patients and 26 deaths while 703 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

“Currently, we have a capacity of 2,552 beds at 25 quarantine and isolation centres and 13 beds with 13 ventilators at the two ICU of two government hospitals to provide treatments to the COVID-19 patients in the division,” he said.

The government hospitals, health complexes and other health services providing facilities have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to face the COVID-19 situation in Rangpur division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 41,863 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 36,312 released and 5,551 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

During the last 24 hours, 466 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 152 others released from all eight districts in the division.

After getting a total of 1,54,618 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 84,165 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 66,453 pieces in the division.

Dr. Khan called upon the people to strictly maintain physical distancing and abide by the health directives of the government to remain safe from the COVID-19 pandemic as community transmission of the deadly virus continues at places.
