Alleged pirate killed in Bhola gunfight
BHOLA, June 9, 2020 (BSS) – An alleged pirate was killed in a gunfight with police in a ground at Veduria Ferryghat area under Bhola sadar upazila in the district in the early hours of today.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam Shafi, 40, son of Munnaf Bapery on Ilisha union of the upazila, police said.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Thana Md Enayet Hossain told BSS that police came to know that there were eight to 10 dacoits in Ilisha union area.
As police rushed to the spot, the dacoits started firing targeting the police sensing their presence. This forced the police to fire back in self-defense, Hossian added.
At one stage, dacoits ran away from the scene but one pirate was seriously wounded during the firing.
Later, police recovered a shooter gun, four sharp weapons (Ramda) and two rounds of bullet from the spot. Police also recovered the body of Shafi and took him to Bhola General Hospital.
Police said a number of murder and robbery cases were pending against Shafi with different police stations.
