Women’s football league likely to resume in September

DHAKA, June 8, 2020 (BSS) – All the domestic sporting activities are postponed for more than two months due to coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Though the men’s football team is likely going to back into action soon ahead of their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers matches, it’s expected that the women’s football team will also return in the field as well.

Talking to the BSS today, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) women’s wing committee chairman and FIFA council member Mahfuza Akter Kiron informed that they are thinking to resume the women’s football league from September.

“Actually all depends on situation …. if everything goes all right, then we have a plan to resume the league in September,” said Kiron.

Earlier, on March 16, the BFF postponed the all the domestic sporting events as a precaution to combat the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Seven teams are taking part in the league making their debut for the first time. Bashundhara Kings is the only team from men’s premier league to participate in the league which began on March 22.

Powerhouse Bashundhara Kings dominated the league table maintaining the all-win record with 15 points from five matches while Nasrin Sporting Club followed the leaders with nine points from four matches.

FC Uttar Bongo and Kacharipara XI stand at third and fourth position having seven points each from four matches while Begum Anwara SC placed at fifth position with six points with from five matches.

Participating teams: Bashundhara Kings, Nasrin Sporting Club, FC Uttar Bongo, Kacharipara XI, Begum Anowara SC, Cumilla United and MK Gallactico Sylhet.
