Bourses return to nose-dive

DHAKA, June 8, 2020 (BSS) – Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) today closed trading posting nose-dive again after a day although turnover increased by 51 percent amid the cautious move of investors due to COVID-19 outbreak.

At DSE, the broad index, DSEX settled at 3956.10 points on Monday with a loss of 5.40 points or 0.13 percent.

Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and Shariah index, DSES also went down by 3.08 points and 1.15 points to settle at 1324.90 points and 917.42 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 11,060 trades were executed in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 35.35 million securities.

Market turnover, another crucial indicator, stood at Taka 1.06 billion which is higher than of previous day’s Taka 700 million.

Loser took a lead over gainers as out of 283 issues traded, 11 securities gained price while 24 declined and 247 remained unchanged.

The market-cap of DSE also declined to Taka 3,100 billion, from Taka 3,102 billion in the previous session.

The top 10 gainers were Prime Finance First Mutual Fund, Reckitt Benckiser, National Life Insurance Aamra Technologies, Desh Garments, Pubali Bank, Reliance Insurance, Agriculture Marketing Company (PRAN), National Tea Company and MB Pharma.

Olympic Industries topped the turnover chart followed by Exim Bank, Beximco Pharma, Grameenphone, Square Pharma, Al-Arafa Islami Bank, Central Pharma, Reckitt Benckiser, Beximco Limited and BSCCL.

The top 10 losers were ACI Formulation, Exim Bank, Beximco Pharma, Shinepukur Ceramics, ACME Lab, Central Pharma, Beximco Limited, Beximco Synthetic, ACI Limited and Bangladesh General Insurance.

On the other hand, port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed trading at red from the gaining streak of previous days.

CSCX and CASPI declined by 6.84 points and 11.02 points to stand at 6816.08 points and 11249.69 points respectively.
At CSE, a total of 731,889 shares and mutual funds of 91 companies were traded, of which 10 issues advanced while 16 declined and 65 issues remained unchanged.
