FARIDPUR, June 8, 2020 ( BSS) – Kotwali thana police in overnight drive arrested nine persons mostly Awami League (AL) leader and activists and a journalist on charges of attacking Faridpur district Awami League president and torching his house.
A team of Kotwali police in the drive following an inquiry conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department also recovered two pistols, two short guns, 91 round of ammunition, 180 round cartridges, 65 pieces of Yaba tablets, six bottles of liquor, 60,000 kilograms of relief’s rice, three thousand US dollars and 98 thousand Rupees from the houses of the two brothers.
Mohammad Alimuzzaman, Superintendent of Police Faridpur district (SP) disclosed this at a news conference this afternoon.
Police first arrested Sazzad Hossain Barkat, General Secretary of AL, Faridpur Town chapter and his younger brother Imtiaz Hasan Rubel , President of Faridpur Press Club also an editor of the daily ‘Bhorer Prottaysha’ from their house at Badarpur around 12 midnight .
“ On the basis of the confession of the two detained brothers, suspects to be the mastermind in the attack on Advocate Subal Chandra Saha, president of Faridpur district AL police later arrested their cohorts Rezaul Karim Alias Bipul, Yasmin Sultana Bannya, Enamul Islam Jony, Amiyo Sarkar, Narayan Chokroborty, Mahfuzur Rahaman Mamun and Md. Zahid Khan from different town areas . ” SP told the reporters .
A factional group of leaders and activists of AL first attacked and beat Advocate Subal Chandra Saha and ransacked his Goalchamot residence at around 7 pm on May 16 last.
Police arrested nine persons with firearms , ammunition , relief materials , liquor, yaba tablets and huge foreign currencies following a case filed by Subal on May 18 .
The arrestees will be produced before the court,SP added.
