Nigeria collects Bangladesh’s COVID-19 drug sending chartered flight

DHAKA, June 7, 2020 (BSS) – The Nigeria government today collected
potential coronavirus drug Remdesivir, produced by Bangladesh’s local
pharmaceuticals, from here by sending a chartered flight to treat one
of its COvid-19 infected governors.

On June 6 night, Nigerian foreign minister Geoffrey Onyeama made a
phone call to his Bangladesh counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen seeking
permission to send a charter flight to Dhaka for collecting
Remdesivir, a foreign ministry press release said here.

Momen right away granted Nigerian government’s request and in due
course the special Nigerian flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal
International Airport (HSIA) at 5 pm today and after a while flew back
to Nigerian capital Abuja with the globally sensational medicine.

Besides, the Nigerian government also collected some PPEs and other
medical supply as samples to fight against COVID-19. The Nigerian
government expressed keen interest to import potential COVID-19 drug
as well as medical supply from Bangladesh, said the release.

Some leading Bangladeshi pharmaceuticals are the first drug
manufacturing companies in the world that successfully produced
generic Remedesivir with the brand name Remivir.

Remdesivir has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration
for emergency use in Covid-19 patients – becoming the first medication
backed by early clinical data to be made available to fight the novel
coronavirus.
