COVID-19 cases reach 1,351 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 7, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients rapidly climbed to 1,351 with 42 new positive cases reported during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the new 42 patients were found after testing of 376 collected samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur of Rangpur division on Saturday.

Of them, 13 new patients of five northern districts were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The new patients include four of Rangpur, six of Gaibandha, one each of Lalmonirhat, Panchagarh and Kurigram” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu told BSS today.

Meanwhile, 29 new infected patients of two northern districts were reported on Saturday after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The new cases include 24 of Dinajpur and five of Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker said.

The district-wise break up of the patients now stands at 468 in Rangpur, 87 in Panchagarh, 154 in Nilphamari, 49 in Lalmonirhat, 76 in Kurigram, 135 in Thakurgaon, 305 in Dinajpur and 77 in Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 544 with healing of 57 more patients on Saturday in Rangpur division.

“The recovery rate among the total 1,351 COVID-19 patients stands now at 40.26 percent in Rangpur division,” he said.

The 544 recovered patients include 229 of Rangpur, 20 of Panchagarh, 68 of Nilphamari, 26 of Lalmonirhat, 54 of Kurigram, 43 of Thakurgaon, 82 of Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts.

With one more death reported from Dinajpur on Saturday, the total number of fatalities rose to 23 in the division including nine of Rangpur, three each of Gaibandha and Dinajpur, four of Nilphamari, two each of Panchagarh and Thakurgaon districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 17,364 samples of suspected COVID-19 patients were tested so far and of them 1,351 were reported positive with the percentage of 7.78 among the total tested samples.

“Among the 1,351 coronavirus patients, 212 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 544 recovered patients and 23 deaths while 572 remaining in isolation at homes,” he said.

A total of 40,873 people were put in quarantine since the beginning, and of them, 35,477 released so far and 5,396 are remaining in home or institutional quarantines in all eight districts of the division.

“After getting a total of 1,37,768 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have distributed 84,935 pieces of the same among the physicians, nurses and other health service providers with a stock of 52,833 pieces now in the division,” Dr. Khan added.
