Chilli farmers happy over bumper yield, fair price in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, June 6, 2020 (BSS) – The farmers of Panchagarh district are happy over bumper chilli yield and fair price of their production this year after incurring losses in the previous year.

Now, green chilli is being sold at Taka 800 to 850 per mound in the local markets. A farmer can produce at least 30-maund chilli from one bigha of land which present market price is average Taka 25,000.

Traders from different parts of the country come there to buy chilli and supply to different places including Dhaka.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) of Panchagarh office sources said a total of 5,000 hectares of land have been brought under green chilli cultivation this year.

Farmer Susil Kumar of Prundipara village under debiganj upazila said he had cultivated chilli on 3 bighas of land and he has already profit Taka 70,000
by selling chilli after meeting all expenditure. He is expecting to earn more Taka 15,000 by selling chilli.

Department of Agriculture Extension has provided all necessary support to the chilli growers, an official of Debiganj upazila agriculture office said.
