DHAKA, June 03, 2020 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today ordered authorities concerned to take prompt legal action over an incident where an innocent youth in Chapainawabganj was sent to jail over mistaken identity.
A High Court virtual bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order, asking Chapainawabganj Chief Judicial Magistrate to take proper action in this regard.
The court came up with the order as Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Shishir Monir drew court’s attention to newspaper reports on the sufferings of innocent Md Rubel, 23, of village Jamaipara under Shibganj Police Station in Chapainawabganj.
Police arrested and sent Md Rubel to jail, instead of real culprit Rubel Ali alias Rubel Babul, 26, of village Kadamtola. Though both of them are from different villages, their names and fathers’ names are quite similar, and police too conducted a botched investigation, making the innocent Rubel to languish behind bars for two and a half months.
