SUNAMGANJ, June 3, 2020 (BSS) – Delwar Hossain, a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader of Sunamganj, has set an example of honesty by returning Taka 2,500 to its real beneficiary after receiving the money in his Nagad account from the government’s cash assistance programme.

On May 25 last, Taka 2,500 was sent to Delwar’s Nagad account from the government’s cash assistance programme although he was not a beneficiary of the programme. The money was sent to his account due to digit error in the mobile number of real beneficiary.

So, Delwar, the joint convener of Dowarabazar Upazila Chhatra League and the convener of Dowarabazar Government Degree College BCL unit, started searching the real beneficiary whose money was sent to his account mistakenly.

He communicated with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Dowarabazar to find out the beneficiary and return the money he received. In addition to this, Delwar sent an email to Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus seeking cooperation to this end.

Immediately after receiving the email, Kaikaus took steps to find out the real beneficiary of the cash assistance programme and instructed the authorities concerned to resolve the problem. Subsequently, the money Delwar received was brought back to the public exchequer.

Finally, real beneficiary Lucky Akter was found out and the amount of the cash assistance was sent to her account.

Delwar said once he received the amount from the government cash assistance programme, he tried his best to find out the real beneficiary of the money.

“After receiving the money, I only thought how I can return the amount of the government’s humanitarian assistance to its real beneficiary. The amount was not significant but it might be enough for the beneficiary, a needy person,” he said.

“I am very happy after returning money to its beneficiary,” Delwar added.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Dowarabazar Sonia Sultana said the upazila administration in cooperation with the district administration found out real beneficiary Lucky Akter, who is an inhabitant of Bishwamvarpur upazila.

Sunamganj Zila Chhatra League general secretary Ashiqur Rahman said the BCL is proud of Delwar as he set an example of honesty by returning Taka 2,500 to the real beneficiary.

The government is providing Taka 2,500 in cash each to 50 lakh families from its Taka 1,250 crore humanitarian assistance programme through mobile banking.
