One confesses in case over National Bank cash heist
DHAKA, June 3, 2020 (BSS) – One arrested in a case lodged over the sensational heist of Taka 80 lakh from a money carrying vehicle of National Bank in Old Dhaka on May 10, made confessional statement in the court today.
Babul Miah alias Kala Babul, 55, confessed his crimes before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Elias Miah as police produced him before the court and pleaded to record his statement under section 164.
Another Dhaka court on June 2 placed Babul and Hannan alias Robin, 50, Mohammmad Mostafa, 52, and Pervin, 31, on three-day remand each. The court had also sent another accused Alamgir to jail.
Police said they arrested the accused on the night of June 1 and recovered Taka 60 lakh of the stolen money and two foreign-made weapons from them.
A bag containing Taka 80 lakh went missing from the bank cash carrying vehicle on May 10 as it was collecting money from different branches of the bank in Old Dhaka. The bank authorities filed the case with Kotwali Police Station in this regard.
Police have already arrested an official designated to collect the cash on that day, driver of that vehicle and two security guards.
