4 dedicated hospitals get PPE from Red Crescent

DHAKA, June 3, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) jointly with the Swiss Red Cross Bangladesh Country Office and in support with the Novartis Bangladesh office today handed over some 28,000 sets of Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) to four dedicated COVID-19 hospitals in the capital.

The BDRCS, jointly with the government, is working to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 in the country. The government has also started the operations of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital as a COVID-19 hospital, said a press release.

The release said the four hospitals which received PPE worth Taka 2.27 crore are Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital, Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Kurmitola General Hospital.

These PPE were handed over at a simple ceremony at the training room of the headquarters of the BDRCS in the capital today.

BDRCS Vice Chairman and IFRC Governing Board member Dr Habibe Millat, MP, was present at the PPE handover ceremony as the chief guest. Society Secretary General M Firoz Salahuddin, Deputy Secretary General M Rafiqul Islam, Swiss Red Cross Bangladesh Country Representative Amitabh Sharma, Kurmitola General Hospital Director Brigadier General Jamil Ahmed, Dhaka Medical College Hospital Director Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin, Kuwait Moitree Hospital Director Dr Sarwar ul Alam were present among others.

The Society Vice Chairman Dr Habibe Millat, MP, formally handed over these health safety equipments like PPE to the directors of these four hospitals to be used for the doctors and other health workers.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Millat said from the very beginning of this COVID-19 crisis, the society had been extending all-out support to the government in its efforts to prevent and control this deadly virus.

Swiss Red Cross Bangladesh Country Representative Amitabh Sharma said that the Swiss Red Cross is very much delighted for becoming a partner to rendering services to the front liners like doctors, nurses and health workers.
