COVID-19 cases cross 1,200 mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 3, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive
cases reached 1,221 as 38 more new patients were diagnosed with the lethal
virus at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division on Tuesday.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients stands at 1,221 in all eight
districts of Rangpur division at 8 am today,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and
Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS
today.

“The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 patients now stands at 435 in
Rangpur, 80 in Panchagarh, 147 in Nilphamari, 47 in Lalmonirhat, 73 in
Kurigram, 122 in Thakurgaon, 255 in Dinajpur and 62 Gaibandha districts in the
division,” he said.

Meanwhile, a total of 435 COVID-19 patients were released so far after
their recovery from the Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals in all eight
districts of Rangpur division.

“The percentage of recovery among all 1,221 coronavirus infected patients
stands at 35.62 so far in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Among the 435 recovered COVID-19 patients, 191 of Rangpur, 18 of
Panchagarh, 53 of Nilphamari, 23 of Lalmonirhat, 39 of Kurigram, 34 of
Thakurgaon, 55 of Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts in the division, he
added.

Meanwhile, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan a total of
15,860 collected samples of Rangpur division were so far tested, and of them,
the 1,221 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 7.70 in the
division.

At the same time, the total number of fatalities rose to 21 including eight
of Rangpur, three of Gaibandha, four of Nilphamari, two each of Panchagarh,
Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts.

Among the total 1.221 coronavirus infected patients, 286 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 435
recovered patients and 21 deaths while 479 remaining in isolation at homes in
the division.

“Since the beginning from March 10 last, a total of 39,637 people were put
in quarantine, and of them, 34,220 released so far and 5,417 are currently
remaining in home or institutional quarantine in Rangpur division,” Dr. Khan
said.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 460 people were put in quarantine
at home or institutions and 412 others released from all eight districts in
the division.

“The COVID-19 patients are getting treatments at 25 quarantine and
isolation centres with 2,552 beds and 13 beds with 13 ventilators at two
intensive care units of two government hospitals to face the situation in the
division,” Dr. Khan said.

To remain safe from the COVID-19, the people should stay at home, strictly
maintain physical distancing and abide by the health directives of the
government as community transmission of the lethal virus continues at places,
he added.
