Four put on remand over National Bank cash heist

DHAKA, June 2, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed four people, who were arrested over heist of Taka 80 lakh from a money carrying vehicle of National Bank in Old Dhaka on May 10, on three-day remand each.

The four accused are Hannan alias Robin, 50, Mohammmad Mostafa, 52, Babul Miah alias Kala Babul, 55, and Pervin, 31.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Noman passed the order as investigation officer (IO) and sub-inspector of detective branch Monirul Islam Mridha produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand each.

The court also sent another accused Alamgir to jail, allowing a plea of the IO.

Police said they arrested the accused last night and recovered Taka 60 lakh of the stolen money and two foreign-made weapons from them.

A bag containing Taka 80 lakh went missing from the bank cash carrying vehicle on May 10 as it was collecting money from different branches of the bank in Old Dhaka. The bank authorities filed the case with Kotwali Police Station in this regard.

Police have already arrested an official designated to collect the cash on that day and driver of that vehicle and two security guards.
