COVID-19 cases reach 1109 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 31, 2020 (BSS) – The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19)
patients hastily climbed to 1,109 with 100 new positive cases reported during
the last 24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the new 100 patients were found after testing of
1,032 collected samples at the COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur and
National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Centre (NILMRC) in
Dhaka on Saturday.

Of them, 17 new patients of Rangpur, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram
districts were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19
Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city on Saturday.

“The 17 new patients include 10 of Rangpur, two of Gaibandha, three of
Lalmonirhat and one of Kurigram” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and
Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu
told today.

Meanwhile, 26 new infected patients of Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh
districts were reported on Saturday after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-
19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 26 new cases include 22 of Thakurgaon, three of Dinajpur and one of
Panchagarh districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker told
BSS today.

Talking to BSS at 11 am today, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant
Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said 57 more people of
five districts were tested positive for coronavirus at the COVID-19 Laboratory
at NILMRC on Saturday.

The 57 new people of the five districts were diagnosed with coronavirus
positive after testing 656 samples at the NILMRC on Saturday.

“The 57 new patients reported from the NILRMC include 20 of Nilphamari,
four of Thakurgaon, three of Panchagarh, eight of Dinajpur and 22 of four
other districts of Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddique added.

The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 patients now stands at 411 in
Rangpur, 68 in Panchagarh, 129 in Nilphamari, 44 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in
Kurigram, 109 in Thakurgaon, 224 in Dinajpur and 55 Gaibandha districts in the
division.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said, among the total
1,109 patients, 362 recovered, 17 died and 197 are undergoing treatments at
isolation units of dedicated corona isolation hospitals and 533 taking
treatments at homes.

“The 362 recovered patients include 151 of Rangpur, 15 of Panchagarh, 50 of
Nilphamari, 18 of Lalmonirhat, 32 of Kurigram, 25 of Thakurgaon, 49 of
Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Khan added.

The 17 fatalities reported from Rangpur division include eight of Rangpur,
three of Gaibandha, two each of Nilphamari and Panchagarh and one each of
Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts.

“The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients currently stands at 32.64 percent
while fatality rate at 1.53 percent in Rangpur division,” he said.

Meanwhile, a total of 38,221 people were put in quarantine, and of them,
32,374 released so far and 5,547 are currently remaining in home or
institutional quarantine in Rangpur division.

“During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 520 people were put in
quarantine at home or institutions and 494 others released amid rapidly
deteriorating trend in the COVID-19 situation in the division,” Dr. Khan
added.
