RANGPUR, May 30, 2020 (BSS) – The total reported number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases crossed the 1,000 in Rangpur division amid rising trend in community transmission of the tedious virus at places.
Health officials said the total number of patients climbed to 1,009 as 50 new people were diagnosed positive after testing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Friday.
Among the 50 new patients diagnosed on Thursday, six are from Rangpur, nine from Panchagarh, three from Kurigram, 25 from Dinajpur and seven from Gaibandha districts in the division.
“The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 patients stands at 394 in Rangpur, 64 in Panchagarh, 108 in Nilphamari, 35 in Lalmonirhat, 67 in Kurigram, 84 in Thakurgaon, 213 in Dinajpur and 44 Gaibandha in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
“A total of 13,704 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested so far and 1,009 positive cases found with the percentage of over 7.36 in the division,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.
Meanwhile, 16 fatalities were reported so far with eight from Rangpur, three from Gaibandha, two each from Nilphamari and Panchagarh one from Dinajpur districts in the division.
Since the beginning, a total of 320 COVID-19 patients were released after their recovery from the 15 Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals in all eight districts of Rangpur division till 8 am today.
“The rate of recovery among all 1,009 coronavirus infected patients stands now at over 31.71 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
Among the recovered COVID-19 patients, 143 of Rangpur, 13 of Panchagarh, 38 of Nilphamari, 13 of Lalmonirhat, 29 of Kurigram, 24 of Thakurgaon, 38 of Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts.
Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 37,683 people were put in quarantine since the beginning, and of them, 31,882 released so far and 5,801 are remaining in home or institutional quarantine.
During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 315 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 507 others released from the division.
Among the total 1,009 coronavirus patients, 176 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 320 recovered patients and 16 deaths while 497 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.
“The COVID-19 patients are getting treatments at 25 quarantine and isolation centres with 2,552 beds. We have 13 beds with 13 ventilators at two intensive care units of two hospitals in the division,” Dr. Khan added.
Dr. Khan suggested the citizens to properly maintain physical distancing, abide by the health directives and ensure careful movements wearing masks to remain safe as community transmission of the virus continues.
