Tangail Sadar Upazila chairman suspended for relief mismanagement
DHAKA, May 29, 2020 (BSS) – As part of the government’s pledge to carry
out smooth relief operation amid the COVID-19 crisis, the local government
authority has suspended another local government representative accused of
engaging in relief mismanagement.
Tangail Sadar Upazila Chairman Nazmul Huda alias Nabin was suspended on
charge of harassing the government’s relief officials and exerting illegal
influence and creating barriers in the way of smooth relief operation in the
district, said an official release here today.
“With the suspension of the local representative, the Ministry of Local
Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) so far fired a total of
72 local government representatives for committing illegal activities in
relief operation,” it said.
The local government division issued a gazette notification on Thursday to
this end.
Of these terminated representatives, 23 are union council chairmen, 45
are union council members, one district council member, two municipality
councilor and one upazila vice-chairman.
