UP-CHAIRMEN-SUSPENSION
2 more UP chairmen, 3 members suspended over relief scam
DHAKA, May 28, 2020 (BSS) – The Local Government, Rural Development and
Cooperatives Ministry has suspended two more Union Parishad (UP) chairmen and
three UP members for their irregularities in distributing government’s relief
goods.
The Local Government Division today issued separate notification in this
regard.
A total of 71 public representatives, including 23 UP chairmen, 45 UP
members, 1 Zila Parishad member and 2 municipal councilors, have been
temporarily suspended so far since the start of the coronavirus outbreak.
The suspended UP Chairmen are: Kabir Ahmed of Birgaon UP in Nabinagar
upazila and Md Jamal Uddin Bhuiyan of Bishnupur UP of Bijoynagar upazila
under Brahmanbaria district.
The suspended UP members are : Taher Mia of ward 2 of Birgaon UP in
Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district, Md Borhan Uddin, of ward 8 of
Rayed UP in Kapasia upazila under Gazipur district and Bilkis Begum of wards
4, 5 and 6(reserved seat) of Chandpur UP in the same upazila.
They were suspended as they got involved with irregularities in the
preparation of the list of beneficiaries of the cash assistance programme
through mobile banking announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and
embezzlement of food-friendly programmes.
Besides, separate showcase notices were served on them asking to send their
replies to the Local Government Division through respective deputy
commissioners (DCs) within 10 working days from the date of receiving notices
explaining why they should not be removed permanently from their posts.
