2 more bodies recovered following Wednesday’s boat capsize in Jamuna

SIRAJGANJ, May 27, 2020 (BSS) – Police and Fire Service divers recovered
two more bodies from Jamuna in the morning, a day after a boat capsized in
the Jamuna River in Chowhali upazila here.

With the recovery of two bodies, the death toll from the boat accident
stood at five, police sources said.

Police recovered one unidentified body floating in the river in Jotpara
area in the morning while divers of fire service recovered another body,
identified as Afzal, son of Abdur Rashid of Koijuri under Shahjadpur upazila,
from the same area, officer-in-charge of Chowhali Police Station Md Rashidul
Islam told BSS. Besides, more 14 people are still missing in the incident, he
said.

Other three identified deceased are Pashan Fakir (65), son of late Jahir
Fakir of Gaynakandi in Belkuchi upazila, Naimul Islam (4), son of Shamim
Hossain of Kalagachi village of Sirajganj and Sheikh Kamal Mollah (45), son
of late Majid Mollah of Subarnatali in Nagarpur of Tangail.

On Wednesday, a shallow-engine boat from Enayetpur, carrying at least 73
passengers, sank in the river in Sthalchar area due to strong winds. Soon
after the incident, police and locals rescued 54 people alive and recovered
three bodies.
