Forging social resistance against drugs underscored

GAIBANDHA, JUNE 22, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a function here yesterday
underscored the need for building social resistance against narcotics and
creating much awareness among people about the bad effects of drugs to build
a drug free developed society.

“It was not possible for any individual, group, department or the
government to contain the drug abuse until the social movement shouldn’t be
forged against it and the initiative have to start from the family and the
society”, they said.

They came up with the observations while addressing an anti narcotic mass
awareness meeting organized by Shantiram Union Parishad (UP) under Sundarganj
upazila in the district on Thursday afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the meeting as the
chief guest and acting UNO assistant commissioner (Land) Abu Bakkar Siddique
was present as the special guest.

With UP chairman M. Samiul Islam in the chair, the meeting was also
addressed, among others, by upazila project implementation officer Nurunnabi
Sarker, officer-in-charge of Sundarganj thana SM Abdus Sobhan, Sundarganj
press club president Abdul Mannan Akand, and UP member Mithu Miah.

DC Pal urged all sections of the people to come forward with positive
attitude and play active role and keep much contribution to establish drug
free society and save the young generation from this menace.

A large number of people including the youths, public representatives,
local elite including media personalities attended the function.
