Maritime ports advised to keep hoisted signal 3

DHAKA, May 27, 2020 (BSS) – Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar,
Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no
three as steep pressure gradient persists over the North Bay.

“Steep pressure gradient persists over the North Bay. Under its influence,
squally weather may affect the maritime ports, the North Bay and adjoining
coastal areas of Bangladesh,” said a Bangladesh Meteorological Department
(BMD) press release here today.

Under the influence of the steep pressure gradient and the moon phase, the
low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat,
Jhalokathi, Pirozpur, Borguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Laxmipur,
Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and their offshore islands
and chars are likely to be inundated by the wind driven surge height of 01-02
feet above normal astronomical tide.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to
remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

Besides, the met office also advised the river ports to hoist riverine
warning signal no two as in association with rain or thunder showers
temporary west or north-westerly squalls speeding 60-80 kph is likely to
occur over the regions of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Bogura, Pabna, Mymensingh and
Sylhet between 3pm today and 1pm tomorrow.

Rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary west or north-westerly
gusty or squally wind speeding 45-60 kph is likely to occur elsewhere over
the country wherein river ports shall hoist cautionary signal no one, the met
office said.
