COVID-19 positive cases reach 762 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 24, 2020 (BSS) – The recorded number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases stands at 762 in Rangpur division where community transmission of the deadly virus continues at fewer places in recent weeks.

“Thirty-one new patients were reported after testing their samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Saturday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS this afternoon.

The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 patients stands at 340 in Rangpur, 37 in Panchagarh, 80 in Nilphamari, 30 in Lalmonirhat, 60 in Kurigram, 61 in Thakurgaon, 121 in Dinajpur and 33 Gaibandha districts in the division.

Meanwhile, a total of 182 COVID-19 patients were released so far after their recovery from the 15 Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals in all eight districts of Rangpur division till 8 am today.

“The percentage of recovery among all 762 coronavirus infected patients stands at over 23.88 till Sunday morning in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Among the 172 recovered COVID-19 patients, 58 of Rangpur, 10 of Panchagarh, 25 of Nilphamari, six of Lalmonirhat, 22 of Kurigram, 23 of Thakurgaon, 16 of Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts in the division, he added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan a total of 11,677 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested since the beginning, and of them, 762 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of over 6.52 in the division.

Meanwhile, 11 fatalities were reported so far with four from Rangpur, three from Gaibandha, two Nilphamari and one each from Dinajpur and Panchagarh districts in the division till Saturday night.

“Among the total 762 coronavirus infected patients, 132 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 182 recovered patients and 11 deaths while 434 remaining in isolation at homes in the division,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 35,475 people were put in quarantine, and of them, 28,848 released so far and 6,627 are remaining in home or institutional quarantine in Rangpur division.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 310 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 701 others released from all eight districts in the division.

“It has become the utter need for the people to stay at home, strictly maintain physical distancing and abide by the health directives to remain safe as community transmission continues at places in the division,” Dr. Khan added.

After getting a total of 1,29,769 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 73,992 pieces of the same with a stock of 55,777 pieces in stock in the division.
