COVID-19 infects 1,020 serving, retired armed forces personnel

DHAKA, May 23, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 1,364 persons, including serving
and retired members of the armed forces, their family members and civil and
other personnel of various organizations of the armed forces have so far got
infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

An ISPR press release today said a total of 1,020 serving and retired
personnel of the armed forces, 92 of their family members and 252 civil and
other people under various organizations of the armed forces have so far been
infected since this deadly virus was detected in the country.

Out of them, some 933 are undergoing treatment at different Combined
Military Hospitals CMHs across the country while 421 of them have returned to
their respective houses after getting cured fully.

Besides, 10 personnel have so far died. Of them, eight are retired
personnel aged above 60 years while two others are serving army members while
all of them were suffering from various non-curable diseases and physical
complexities before getting infected with this virus.

The release said a total of 13 RT-PCR machines are in operation at all CMHs
across the country alongside the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP)
to test the COVID-19 samples for the serving and retired members of the armed
forces and their family members.

Apart from this, sufficient number of PPEs, masks, gloves, necessary
medicines and other necessary equipments are in stock at all the CMHs.

So far, some 7,410 samples have been tested at the PCR laboratories of the
armed forces including 4,375 samples of the members of the armed forces, 774
samples of their family members and 2,261 samples of civil members.

Round the clock treatment is being ensured to the COVID-19 infected
patients by the trained physicians of the Bangladesh Army following all the
health safety guidelines of the Ministry of Health Affairs.
