Over 5.5cr people get govt’s relief amid COVID-19 crisis

DHAKA, May 23, 2020 (BSS) – Over 5.5 crore people of 1.25 crore families
across the country have received relief as the government continues its
humanitarian assistance to mitigate their sufferings in the wake of the
coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to the information received from the district administrations of
64 districts, as of May 22, a total of 1,82,067 metric tons of rice has been
allocated as relief and of the volume, 1,62,193 metric tons was distributed
among over 5,61,48,579 people of over 1,25,02,948 families across the
country, said an official handout here today.

The government has so far allocated Taka 104.07 crore in cash for
purchasing baby food and other relief items. Of the total amount, Taka
81,73,72,264 was allocated for relief in cash while Taka 69.1038253 crore has
already been distributed among 3.5121547 crore people of 75.29872 lakh
families.

Besides, Taka 22.34 crore was allocated for baby food aid while Taka
17,35,05,036 has been distributed among around 11,67,796 people of 5,45,376
families across the country.
