One killed in ‘gun fight’ with RAB at Tongi
DHAKA, May 23, 2020 (BSS) – An alleged criminal was killed in a ‘gun fight’
with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Tongi on the outskirts of
the capital last night.
The deceased was identified as Shamim Hossen alias Hasan, 30.
The RAB recovered two foreign pistols, eight rounds of bullet and 800
pieces of yaba tablets from the spot.
Acting on a tip-off, RAB-1 members conducted a drive at Majarbasti area of
Tongi Bazar, adjacent of the Sena Kalyan Bhaban, in Gazipur city. RAB had
information that a group of armed drug peddlers took position in the area at
around 8.30 pm on Friday.
Sensing the presence of the elite force, the alleged drug peddlers first
opened fire and at one stage RAB retaliated for their self protection and
then the ring leader and identified criminal Shamim Hossen received bullet
and laid on the ground, said Company Commander of RAB-1 Abdullah Al Mamun.
The critically injured Hasan, an accused in 18criminal cases, including the
cases for murder, robbery, arms haul, drug peddling and attack on cops with
Tongi and Banani police stations, was sent to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master
General Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead, said the RAB
official.
Two RAB members were also injured during the gun battle. They were released
after primary treatment.
The Gazipur Metropolitan Police sent the body of Hasan to Gazipur Shahid
Taj Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
