Eid jamaats to be held at Khulna mosques

KHULNA, May 23, 2020 (BSS) – Holy Eid-ul-Fitr’s jamaats (congregations) will be held in the mosques instead of open spaces to curb the spread of coronavirus in the city and all upazilas of Khulna as per the directives by Islamic Foundation.

A total of three main Eid jamaats will be held at Khulna Town Jame Mosque here under the supervision of Khulna District Administration, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).

The first Eid jamaat will be held at 8.00 am at the mosque to be conducted by its Khatib Maulana Mohammad Saleh. The second jamaat will be organised at 9 am and the third and last one will be held at 10 am at the same place.

The other main Eid jamaats will be arranged at different mosques including Collectorate Jame Mosque, Baitun Nur Jame Mosque, Baitul Aman Jame Mosque, Iqbalnagar Jame Mosque, Daulatpur and Khalishpur mosques between 7 am to 9 am.

This year Eid congregations’ have been decided to be held in mosques instead of open spaces to stem COVID-19.

Khulna City Corporation will also arrange Eid congregations at mosques in its 31 Wards under the supervision of concerned ward councilors and local mosques managing committees.

The musollis (devotees) and mosque authorities have been asked to follow the corona related instructions by the government including maintaining physical distancing considering the risk of Covid-19 transmission.

Every devotee who will go to mosque for Eid prayers must wear a mask and carry their own jainamaz (prayer mat) and tupee (cap) instead of using those remaining in the mosques.

Carpets cannot be rolled out in mosques during Eid prayers and the whole mosques need to be cleaned using disinfectant ahead of congregations.

Soaps and hand sanitisers should be kept at the mosque entrance for devotees to clean their hands before entering the mosque premises.

Social distancing measures and health directives must be followed when standing in the jamaat for Eid prayers following the guidelines of the Islamic Foundation.

On the day of Eid, the national flag will be properly hoisted in all government, semi-government, private, autonomous institutions and buildings in the morning and lowered before sunset.

Special meals will be served in different hospitals, prisons, government children’s homes as well as vagabond and distressed welfare centers on the occasion of Eid.

In order to maintain law and order on Eid, the law enforcers will take special security measures at various spots in and outside of the metropolis.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md Helal Hossain called upon all to celebrate Eid with family members at home and advised all to refrain from visiting relatives, neighbours, and entertainment spots amid the risk of transmission of coronavirus.

Similar directives will be followed in the upazilas as well.
