172 COVID-19 patients recover, 11 die in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 23, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 172 coronavirus (COVID-19) patients recovered while 11 others died among 731 infected persons in all eight districts of Rangpur division till 8 am today.

“The percentages of recovery rate stand at 23.53 while death rate at 1.50 so far in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS this noon.

The district-wise numbers of recovered patients stand at 56 of Rangpur, nine of Panchagarh, 25 of Nilphamari, five of Lalmonirhat, 17 of Kurigram, 23 of Thakurgaon, 15 of Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

All of the recovered patients were released with discharge certificates declaring them ‘recovered’ from the 15 Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals in all eight districts of Rangpur division till 8 am today.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases rose to 731 as 16 more new infected patients were diagnosed with the deadly virus at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division on Friday.

“The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 patients now stands at 337 in Rangpur, 32 in Panchagarh, 75 in Nilphamari, 29 in Lalmonirhat, 58 in Kurigram, 51 in Thakurgaon, 120 in Dinajpur and 29 Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan a total of 11,301 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Friday night, and of them, the 731 found coronavirus positive in the division.

At the same time, a total of 11 fatalities were reported so far with four from Rangpur, three from Gaibandha, two Nilphamari and one each from Dinajpur and Panchagarh districts in Rangpur division.

Among the total 731 coronavirus infected patients, 153 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 172 recovered patients and nine deaths while 395 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

“Since the beginning from March 10 last, a total of 35,231 people were put in quarantine, and of them, 28,350 released so far and 6,881 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in Rangpur division,” Dr. Khan said.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 230 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 303 others released from all eight districts in the division.

After getting a total of 1,29,759 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 72,933 pieces of the same with a stock of 56,826 pieces in stock in the division.

“Currently, we are providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients at 25 quarantine and isolation centres with 2,552 beds. We have 13 beds with 13 ventilators at two intensive care units of two hospitals to face the situation in the division,” Dr. Khan added.

The government hospitals and other health services providing facilities of Rangpur division have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to face the COVID-19 situation, he added.
